1. Why "Post More Content" Isn't a Client-Acquisition Plan
Most new coaches are told to "post consistently" and clients will come. For a solo practice needing 5 new clients in a month, that's a bet on an algorithm you don't control, on a timeline you can't schedule around.
This plan swaps that bet for four weeks of specific, controllable actions: reaching people who already know you, giving something useful before asking for anything, and running a discovery call process that doesn't rely on being a naturally gifted closer.
None of this replaces content entirely β it's what fills the calendar while content compounds in the background.
2. Week 1 β Mine Your Warm Network
- List 30 people who already know you can help people (past colleagues, former clients, people who've complimented your work) β not strangers, not cold leads.
- Send each one a specific, non-generic message: not "let me know if you need coaching," but "I'm taking on 3 new clients this month for [specific outcome] β thought of you because of [specific reason]."
- Track replies in a simple log: who responded, what they said, and whether they named a real problem (a real problem beats a polite "good luck!").
Target by end of week 1: 5+ real conversations started, not just messages sent.
3. Week 2 β The Value-First Outreach
- From the conversations that surfaced a real problem, pick 2-3 people and send something useful and specific: a short voice note answering their actual question, a relevant resource, or a 10-minute offer to talk it through with no pitch attached.
- Post one piece of content that answers the single most common question from this week's conversations β real questions produce sharper content than generic "5 tips" posts.
- Ask 2 past clients (if you have any) for a specific introduction: "Do you know one person who's dealing with [specific problem]?" β specific asks get specific answers; "know anyone who needs a coach" gets silence.
Target by end of week 2: at least 2 discovery calls booked.
4. Week 3 β Turn Conversations Into Discovery Calls
- Use a consistent discovery call structure: current situation, specific problem, what they've already tried, what changes if this doesn't get solved. In that order β skipping straight to "here's how I can help" before understanding what they've tried is the most common reason calls don't convert.
- End every call that isn't a fit with a specific next step anyway: a referral, a resource, or a name of someone else who could help. It costs nothing and it's the single highest-leverage relationship-builder in this whole plan.
- Log every call: what they said their problem was, in their own words β this becomes your best marketing copy later.
Target by end of week 3: 3-4 calls completed.
5. Week 4 β Close Without Being Salesy
- Send a proposal within 24 hours of a good call, while the conversation is still fresh for both of you.
- State the price once, clearly, with no hedging language ("it's usually more but for you..."). Hedging signals you don't believe the price, and clients notice.
- If someone says "let me think about it," ask one direct question: "what would need to be true for this to be an easy yes?" β this surfaces the real objection instead of letting the conversation fade.
Target by end of week 4: proposals sent to everyone who had a real problem on the call.
6. What to Do When a Week Goes Wrong
Some weeks, the warm network is thin, or calls don't convert. When that happens:
- Don't skip straight to paid ads to compensate β a broken conversion step (unclear offer, weak discovery call) gets worse with more traffic, not better.
- Re-read your call logs from Week 3 for a common phrase in how people describe their problem β if your outreach doesn't use their words, that's usually the real issue, not a lack of volume.
- Repeat the week that underperformed once, with adjustments, before adding a new channel. Chasing five channels badly loses to one channel worked properly.
