Know Your Wiring

Making better decisions with your real personality, not the one you wish you had

Most decision-making advice is written for one kind of person — usually a highly conscientious extravert — and handed to everyone. If that's not you, the advice doesn't fail because you're doing it wrong; it fails because it was never built for your wiring. This guide is the Big Five (OCEAN), one trait at a time, with the actual decision-making implications of scoring high, moderate, or low on each — so you can stop fighting your own wiring and start using it.

Why the Big Five, and not a type system

Type systems (Myers-Briggs and its relatives) sort you into one of a fixed number of boxes based on a forced either/or. The Big Five doesn't do that — it scores five independent traits on a spectrum, because that's what the actual research on personality structure across decades and cultures keeps finding: five broad, measurable dimensions, not sixteen discrete types. That's why it's the model working psychologists and personality researchers actually use, and why this guide is built on it instead.

Openness to Experience
