Disclaimer: A puzzle game for entertainment and learning. The ciphers are historical or encoding techniques, not secure encryption. Leaderboard scores are counted in each player's browser, so places are for fun rather than verified records.

Each run mixes two kinds of puzzle. In a cipher puzzle you are shown a coded message and must choose the technique that cracks it (a Caesar shift, Base64, Morse, a rail fence, frequency analysis on a substitution, a Vigenere key) and then type the decoded text. In a fix-the-code puzzle you are shown a short JavaScript function with one flawed line: click the line, then choose the replacement that makes it correct. Puzzles get harder as the run goes on, hints cost points, and every explanation tells you why the answer works. Earns XP and leaderboard places in the K3N8H arcade when you are logged in.

Every cipher is a pure, reversible function tested against its own decoder, and every fix-the-code puzzle is actually executed: the flawed version must fail its own test cases and exactly one of the offered replacements must pass them all.

What's included

  • Live playable game at /play/code-breaker (free, unlimited plays)
  • Ten cipher techniques and seventeen broken-function puzzles, with a freshly generated message every run
  • An explanation after every puzzle: why the technique works, why the bug was a bug
  • Arcade XP, achievements and leaderboard when logged in
  • Commercial license: white-label/embed this game on your own site

Runs in your browser: nothing to install

scripts/test-code-breaker.ts round-trips every cipher, checks that each technique option list contains exactly one correct answer, and runs every bug puzzle's code: the flawed line fails and exactly one offered fix passes. Two deliberately broken variants (a wrong option that secretly works, a broken rail fence) were confirmed to fail the suite. Not yet listed for real purchase on Whop/Gumroad (live: true, matching the precedent for products awaiting a checkout listing): creating a payment-platform listing needs a separate, explicit go-ahead.
